Activities during 2012

Bus Services

We held a meeting the proposed revision of the bus services on 23rd February, 2012. There were about 100 people present. The meeting was addressed by Regional Councillor Daran Ponter who discussed the implications of the review and the implications for Wilton. The proposals included

• Route 14 - the Gloucester Street loop is removed;
• Route 22 & 23 - replaced by route 17 which goes between the Lambton Quay bus terminal and Crofton Downs via the University and Mairangi Road. Transfers to/from cross town buses would be regarded as part of the same journey if you are using Snapper. No special peak services.
• Route 13 - is deleted
• Route 47 - becomes a peak only service, but runs the whole year rather just during the university year
• The very late weekend services are cancelled

I made a submission on behalf of the Association. There have two meetings in Wilton since then and the situation at November, 2012 was more satisfactory. In summary

• Route 14 - this route is to go from Surrey Street in Wilton to Kilbirnie and on to Rongotai College. The Gloucester Street loop is reinstated;
• Route 22 & 23 - replaced by route 23 going from Crofton Downs to the present route and on to Houghton Bay. The frequency of service has been improved over the previous proposal and is probably adequate;
• Route 13 - is deleted;
• Route 47 - still to be determined;
• Very late weekend services - don't know what the situation is.

Reorganisation of local government

I went to two meetings on this.

Treasurer's report

We have $241.26 in the bank account.

Other business

Tribute was paid to Chris Pegler who died this year. Chris was an enthusiastic member of the Association many years ago and also an enthusiastic tree planter on what was then Tinakori Hill and other parts of Wilton.

Consultation on rezoning on old Council depot site

This was the proposal to change Wellington's District Plan to support a rezoning of the site at 55 - 85 Curtis Street (south of Whitehead Road)to allow business development. It decided that we should make a submission opposing the proposed development.

Reorganisation of local government

This, and the Geoffrey Palmer report, was discussed briefly.
